Project BEAST (Better Advocacy for Donkeys in Kenya) is a research and advocacy NGO dedicated to protecting donkeys through science, policy, and community engagement.

Donkey welfare work in Kenya

Our Approach to Donkey Welfare

Donkeys are critical to the livelihoods of millions in Kenya, yet they face increasing threats from the illegal skin trade, abuse, and neglect. Project BEAST bridges the gap between research and action, using scientific evidence to inform policy and protect vulnerable donkey populations.

Through collaborative partnerships with communities, veterinarians, researchers, and policymakers, we are building a comprehensive movement for donkey welfare that addresses both immediate threats and long-term systemic change.

Research

Conducting rigorous, peer-reviewed studies on donkey welfare, behavior, and the socioeconomic impacts of the donkey skin trade.

Advocacy

Engaging policymakers, stakeholders, and the public to influence legislation and protect donkeys from abuse and exploitation.

Collaboration

Building partnerships with local communities, veterinary professionals, researchers, and international organizations.

Impact

Creating measurable change through evidence-based interventions that improve donkey welfare across Kenya.

Our Mission

To protect donkeys through research and advocacy against abuse and illegal slaughter, working alongside communities, policymakers, and stakeholders to create lasting change.

Our Vision

A Kenya where donkeys are valued, their welfare is safeguarded, and they live free from abuse, exploitation, and the threat of illegal slaughter.
